Sirimon Chogoria Route Six Days

Sirimon Chogoria Route is the most scenic and diverse route on Mount Kenya for the sole reason that the climber starts from the leeward side of the mountain and goes down on the windward side. It is also the route with more chances of seeing wild animals. It passes through four lakes, several ridges and a beautiful descent on bamboo and grassland. Please see a redacted itinerary beneath. Day One: Airport Pick Up with overnight stay in Nairobi or Nanyuki depending with time of arrival.

Day Two: Transfer to Sirimon Gate. Trek starts at 2,650Meters and leads to Old Moses Camp at 3,300Meters. Hiking time 3 hours 9 Kilometers. Overnight Stay at Old Moses Camp Mountain Huts.

Day Three: Hike starts at 8:00am for 8 hours to Shipton Camp at 4,200Meters. Overnight stay at Shipton Camp Mountain Huts.

Day Four: Acclimatization break. Hike starts at 9:00am for four hours return; climbs to Hurlsberg Ridge at 4,650 Meters and descend back to Shipton Camp Mountain Huts for overnight stay and summit preparations.

Day five: Start out for the Summit climb at 2:00am to Point Lenana at 4,985 Meters. Estimated time of climb to the summit is; 3 to four hours. Descend after sunrise to Mintos hut. Trek to Banda Mountain huts at 3,100 Meters for six hours through one of the most scenic routes going by Lake Microson, Lake Ellis and Lake Simba Tarn.  Overnight Stay in Mount Kenya Meru Bandas.

Day Six: Departure at 8:00am descend 10 Kilometers to end of Bamboo forest. Pick up and transfer to your next destination.

Sirimon route is considered as one of the shortest and easiest route to point Lenana. It is favorable for people with limited time and first time climbers.

Day Two: Transfer to Sirimon Gate. Trek starts at 2,650Meters and leads to Old Moses Camp at 3,300Meters. Hiking time 3 hours 9 Kilometers. Overnight Stay at Old Moses Camp Mountain Huts.

Day Three: Hike starts at 8:00am for 8 hours to Shipton Camp at 4,200 Meters. Overnight stay at Shipton Camp Mountain Huts.

Day Four: Start out for the Summit climb at 2:00am to Point Lenana at 4,985 Meters. Estimated time of climb to the summit is; 3 to four hours. Descend after sunrise to Shipton camp and head to Old Moses 17.5 Kilometers; six hours.

Day Five: Departure for Sirimon Gate at 8:00am pick up and transfer to your next destination.

Naromoru Timau Route 7 Days

Naromoru is reputed to be one of the most unique routes on mount Kenya. It offers camping throughout on the mountain. It starts from the North face of the mountain which has very sparse vegetation and tree cover. It is also long because the peaks of the Mount Kenya align from East to West. While the climb is gentle it is compensated with distance. The descent to Naromoru Route is beautiful steep and goes down through mountain forest.

Day One: Airport Pick Up with overnight stay in Nairobi or Nanyuki depending with time of arrival.

Day Two: Transfer to Timau Gate. Trek starts at 3,000Meters and leads to Marania Camp 3,700 Meters 2 to 3 hours; 7 Kilometers away.

Day Three: Hike starts at 8:00am for 7 hours to Major’s Camp at 4,100Meters for Overnight stay.

Day Four: After departure at 8:00am hike for 4 kilometers to Shipton Camp at 4,200 Meters for overnight stay. Hiking time 2 to 3 hours.  

Day five: Start out for the Summit climb at 2:00am to Point Lenana at 4,985 Meters. Estimated time of climb to the summit is; 3 to four hours. Descend after sunrise to Mackinder’s Camp 4,300 Meters, 5.5 Kilometers 2 to 3 hours decent.

Day Six: Departure at 9:00am descend 13 Kilometers to Metrological Station 3,000 Meters, six hours for overnight stay.

Day Seven: Depart at 8:00Am to Naromoru Park Gate for pick up and transfer to your next destination.
